With a lack of wind, the scorching sun enticing us to stay and the crew unwilling to test my fix of the engine so soon, we decided to stay a further night in Yarmouth.
Thankfully, the lovely couple on the boat inside of us also decided it was too good to leave also, so no juggling boats required.
We decided to take the circular walk around the river Yar, which takes in the salt marshes and woodland … and of course has a pub half way round!
The only downside of the pub (the Red Lion) is that they are not children friendly (thank goodness it was hot enough we actually wanted to sit in the garden) – and the lack of a children’s menu and total lack of flexibility in serving something less than an adult sized meal meant we left feeling pretty ripped off. Especially when the kids eat only a fraction of what is served!
That aside, it was a great day out looking for “mini beasts” in the salt marshes and Gruffalo in the woods, and we finished off the circuit with a trip to the model railway at Fort Victoria, which was a BIG hit with our boys.
Costs: walk ashore £25
(electric free for subsequent nights)
Lunch in the Red Lion £55 (ouch!)
