Our annual inaugural anniversary event was planned to be held at Bembridge Harbour on Saturday 8th November 2014.
In classic Area 15 style, we had planned a Safari supper, where everyone brought a dish, and a BIG firework to let off on the beach.
Bembridge harbour had done a great job organising a room for us to use for food and drinks, and thanks to Malcolm Thorpe for that.
Unfortunately, due to adverse weather conditions (45 mph gusts), we decided that it was prudent to cancel it. After we cancelled at Bembridge, Malcolm Thorpe sent a very nice email to us, saying :-
Hello Paul. I live overlooking the Solent at Yarmouth – as I type this, the conditions are diabolical. A wise decision………… Hopefully you will be able to return soon. All the best, Malcolm
Fortunately, Lloyd Wheelhouse, one of our commodores from Bacchus, stepped up and re-organised a fantastic event based in Gosport at the Mary Mouse in Hasler. The Mary Mouse allowed us to use their function room at really short notice.
The evening started off with delicious warming Glühwein, followed by a spectacular firework display and then a short walk back to the Mary Mouse for some great grub and plenty of wine and beer.
Unfortunately, quite a few boats couldn’t make it, but with over 30 people for a winter event it was a great turnout nonetheless. We also were pleased to invite Russell and Lisa and family from Jazzmine as new members.
The menu included starters, mains, dessert and accompanying home made bread, all of which were lovely, with the desserts getting particular acclaim (no surprise there then!). There was certainly no shortage of food. In fact the small bar area was really struggling to hold it all.
We would like to thank The Mary Mouse for allowing us to use their services and Lloyd for organising it at very short notice.
