Dunkirk to Boulogne 12.08.13

20130816-195402.jpgThe trip from Dunkirk to Boulogne was much faster that I had the tides right and we flew down the French coast doing 9 knots SOG pretty much all the way. We passed Calais and headed straight for Cap De Gris-nez.

The marina is well equipped and easy to navigate with plenty of moorings for visitors although by the end of the day it was pretty full.

The last time we were in Boulogne was many years ago when we came on the Ferry which no longer runs. Then it was pretty grimy and lived of the high footfall from the ferries and as such the quality and service of the restaurants was pretty poor. I think it’s fair to say that Boulogne has upped it’s game. There are still some grotty areas but there are in most cities. But the shopping centres and restaurants seem much better than I remember.

20130816-202901.jpgWe went to a particularly nice restaurant called Le Doyen, 11, rue du Doyan, 62200, Boulogne-sur-Mer. This restaurant is tiny but delightful and not expensive it serves traditional French cuisine but it was probably the best meal we have had whilst away.

There is Carrefour 5 mins from the marina and of course some good looking restaurants in the castle up the hill which we call the old town.
