A Hidden Wonder
We left Goes on the 10am bridge heading for the Grevelingenmeer which is the lake above the Oosterschelde. After leaving Goes there is just one lock, the Grevelingensluis, into the Grevelingenmeer. It’s a big lock, and the only entrance and exit to the area, so it is very busy with everyone trying to get in so it’s a bit of a bum fight!
Once through we headed straight for an island called Mosselbanken (see below) just north of the lock. They are so small they don’t even show up on Google maps terrain. However they should be on your charts and indeed your chart plotter. The picture below is on the western island looking over to the east island
The islands have pontoons attached to the shore and ashore its all grass which is kept mown. There are even rubbish bins and toilets, and what’s more all this is provided free. Hollands great!
The walk ashore pontoons here are quite narrow, with small bollards in the middle every couple of metres, which makes it a bit tricky to get past, especially in a lot of wind, as we had today!
The Mosselbanken islands in the Grevelingenmeer
