Calais to Breskens (Holland) 25.06.13

25€, leccy, water, washer/dryer, supermarket

We left the buoy outside Calais marina around 9am. Journey pretty uneventful apart from running aground just outside Calais crossing the shallows by buoy C4 where according to the chart we had in excess of 3m but we were at very low tide.

Weren’t sure whether we would make Holland today but didnt fancy Ostend for a day or so, so pushed on and headed into Breskens, instead of going bit further and heading for Middelburg. Never been here before but will definitely come back, was lovely! Had everything we needed, especially washer and dryer as I’d not been able to wash bedding or towels before we came away. We arrived around 8.30 and neither of us could be bothered to cook, besides we only had sausages on board, so we went straight out in the hope of finding something.

20130704-085006.jpgUnfortunately (or not as we discovered the next day, very small limited menu) the yacht club was shut so Paul asked a young lad who was VERY helpful. Just the really friendly nature by the boy made us REALLY glad to be in Holland and not France, a much different attitude. He pointed out a lovely Italian so Paul had pizza, I had the usual spag bol and Lucy had her bowl of chips! All washed down with a lovely caraf of house white, it was the perfect finish to a long day getting to where we wanted to be.

Wednesday 26 June – Breskens
Decided to stay another day and get some washing done. Also checked out the town, that has a bike shop, lots of cafes and restaurants, a bank and a couple of supermarkets. We went to the one that was closest to the marina, which by bike takes about 5 mins to get to. Wasn’t an Albert Heijn but still had my chinky style rice and noodles and the macaroni bolognaise that we like! Didnt have the mac cheese that Paul and Lucy love but am sure we’ll get that soon. Ate onboard
