Dordrecht to Alblasserdam – 13th July

We left Dordrecht at 1:30 as this gives the right time for the bridge, Verkeersbrug, further north. It opened at 2:15 and not again till 4:15 and there is nowhere to wait so you have to float around on the river for a couple of hours, so timing is important.

A lot of the bridge times have changed. Here is a link to the latest bridge times and other info for the Standing Mast Route

Having got through the bridge its just a few hundred meters before turning in to Alblasserdam. The book says that the bridge stays open all the time. This is not the case but there is a waiting pontoon before it and a phone number on the bridge. Simply call the number and a jolly chap will pop down and open the bridge for you.

Once through the little bridge you can go into the marinas. They are quite small but we got in okay. The harbourmaster took our lines for us which was also very handy.

There are shops, an Albert Heijn supermarket and restaurants close by. We went to “China Town”, surprise surprise it was a Chinese with a great buffet. It cost 17.50 euros per person but there was a great choice and very tasty. We had a couple of glasses of wine and it cost all in 45 euros.

During the summer there are traditional windmills that they run on Saturdays. But they are a bike ride away and we havent got a child seat for our bikes yet, so we didnt go.

Cost 14 euros inc electric. There is no wifi ( Apparently it’s coming soon).
