Sun 29th July – Cowes to Southampton Town Quay

With Heidi’s Mum and Dad visiting us in Cowes, we used the opportunity to do a spot of sightseeing by land, the highlight of which included the IOW Steam Railway and a couple of hours on the beach at Ryde.

After 3 nights in Cowes, it was time to give Peyto a spot of exercise – which the confused seas and F6 winds around the Thorn channel duly provided.

This was the first time we had ventured north of Hamble point, and we spent an enjoyable hour watching the comings and goings around the busy port and playing a game of ‘dodge the spray’.

We arrived at Southampton Town Quay around 1pm, and were met on arrival by very friendly marina staff who welcomed us at our berth. After a spot of lunch and a quick bit of Olympic viewing whilst a brief shower passed over, we headed off to Mayflower park so the boys could let off steam.

The Town Quay is a bit pricier than Cowes, but this is reflected in the location and facilities – Heidi was impressed that the ladies shower even has GHD hair straighteners!

It seems to be a bit of a hidden secret – probably because the latest channel pilot writes it off with three lines which say that there are no visitors allowed. Luckily, we stumbled across the Town Quay website whilst looking up details of the Titanic exhibition and so here we are!

Our boys are Titanic mad, so we’re staying here two nights and visiting the Titanic exhibition tomorrow.

Cost: £71.80 (2 nights, inc. leccy)
