Wemeldinge to Jachthaven Bruinisse 29.07.16

Track Welmedinge - GrevelingenmeerWe left Wemeldinge about midday after spending an hour or two trying to find/work out the tidal streams and eventually giving up. We worked on the principle that the north sea comes in and goes out i.e. flow east until HW and then ebbs west. As it happens that seems to be reasonable logic. Go figure!!!

We had a nice breeze so managed to sail most of the way on the jib alone. However, by the time we turned east we were against the tide and some engine was required.

Bruinisse LockWe are intending to spend some time in the Grevelingenmeer (which is like an enormous saltwater lake). You can purchase a ticket that allows you to spend 7 nights on the public pontoons for only €12.50. These can be bought all over the place but our nearest was Jachthaven Bruinisse so we thought we’d stay the night. Because we had stayed at the Wemeldinge marine we got a 25% discount so it was a very reasonable €26 inc electric.

This marina is very modern and has everything you need including a big children’s play area, swimming pool, chandlery, bars, restaurants and a mini supermarket. Also, about a 10 minute cycle ride away, is a decent sized Albert Heijn supermarket, with various other shops along the way. It’s worth pointing out this marina is made up of typical Dutch box berths which, in alot of wind, can be difficult to get into.
